EDI & Medical Billing Systems Modernization Developer

We are seeking a highly motivated programmer to lead the modernization of our legacy medical billing infrastructure, integrating AI-enhanced automation and transitioning existing modules into a streamlined .NET or .ASP-based system.

The ideal candidate will begin by building robust processes for:
  •  Ingesting 835 EDI files (electronic remittance advice)
  •  Generating 837 EDI files (electronic insurance claims)

From there, this developer will collaborate directly with the billing department and AI-assisted tools to transition and optimize key billing functions into a new, modular system architecture.

Responsibilities
– Develop and maintain processes to parse, validate, and import 835 EDI files into our current billing database schema
– Build automated tools to generate 837 EDI files from existing invoice data for submission to clearinghouses
– Interface with AI systems and internal billing experts to streamline complex workflows
– Reverse-engineer and document existing legacy billing modules
– Transition and rebuild these modules within a modern .NET or ASP-based framework
– Collaborate with the billing, compliance, and technical teams to ensure clean handoffs and reliable deployment
– Monitor for errors, reconcile transactions, and implement robust error-logging and audit mechanisms
– Design with scalability, HIPAA compliance, and long-term maintainability in mind

Requirements
– 3–5+ years of experience in application development with .NET, ASP, or equivalent Microsoft web technologies
– Proficient in EDI 835/837 standards and healthcare billing formats (HIPAA-compliant)
– Experience with SQL Server and relational databases
– Familiarity with legacy system modernization, especially for medical billing or laboratory systems
– Exposure to AI-assisted tools and workflows (e.g., claims automation, denial analysis, natural language generation)
– Strong understanding of healthcare RCM (Revenue Cycle Management) processes
– Comfortable working with XML/X12 formats, clearinghouses, and payer requirements

– Bonus Skills:
– Familiarity with AI tools or LLMs (e.g., OpenAI, GPT) for automation
– Knowledge of healthcare regulations (HIPAA, CMS, payer policies)
– Experience with legacy VBScript, classic ASP, or FoxPro (if relevant to your stack)
– Experience building ETL pipelines or monitoring dashboards
